I have a question about transfers within the police department?

Is it possible for a member of law enforcement to be transferred from a city in one state or Canadian province, to a city in another state or Canadian province? If so, what is the procedure to make this happen. In my current in-progress novel, my protagonist is living with his sister and brother-in-law, the BIL being a member of the Winnipeg Police Service (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and they later live in Vancouver, British Columbia. Would this be realistic, and if so, how can this be set up realistically?

I don't know too much about Canada, but not in the US. In the US, when you work for a police department, you are an employee of that city. You would have to be hired by another city ( and start over at entry level, and likely have to attend the academy again).

I suspect that things may be a little different up there, but I am pretty sure of you work for the City of Winnepeg, you can't just drive out to Vancover and start work there. It is a different employer, N'est Ce Pas?

Members of the RCMP can of course be transferred to anywhere in the country. they work for the Federal government.
