Small pets that could live in a space no bigger than a 10 gallon tank?
I'm looking into getting a small pet this summer. It can't be a bird, reptile, or any type of rodent. It has to be able to live in a 10 gallon aquarium. I'm open to suggestions.
I've been considering a newt. I don't want a rodent. Just about all the experiences I've had with rodents have been bad. I've ended up with mean little creatures that try to escape. Plus my family has had similar experiences so if I brought home a rodent I would be had. As far as reptiles go I can't have a snake and don't want a really high maintenance animal that needs a heating lamp if I can keep from it. No bird because I'm doing away to college 2015. I want a bird some day just not now.

Well, if you can't have a bird, reptile or rodent all that is left is an amphibian or fish. So, you could go with frogs, geckos, newts, or another small guy. If none of them spike your interest then the only thing left are fish. My question though, is why can't it be a reptile or rodent? Those are basically what you would keep in a 10 gallon tank.

If you are going away to collage next year & won't be around to take care of it, why don't you just foster whatever it is --for a pet rehoming organization-- instead of getting one of your own . . . with the understanding that when you go off to collage they'll have to find another caretaker for it. . . . ?
