To what end does President Obama favor relinquishing Internet domain oversight to the undefined "global community?"?

Today at the Front Page Magazine website, Deborah Weiss noted the risks inherent in the approach the Obama administration is taking on this issue, especially on freedom of speech:

As Ms. Weiss's article notes, the opposition to this proposal isn't confined to Republicans, as former President Clinton has made his opposition clear on this matter.

    "After each objection to AGIT’s applications, objectors were told that there was insufficient evidence that the Muslim community supported their objection or that the application approval would hurt their community’s interests.

    In response, the OIC gathered its Council on Foreign Ministers and unanimously adopted the “Resolution consolidating the OIC’s Position to Preserve gTLDs with Islamic Identity”, on December 11, 2013. The resolution:

    asserted that gTLDs with an “Islamic identity” are of such “sensitive nature” that they are a concern to the entire Islamic nation;

    that OIC Member States plan to formulate a “unified position” regarding the management of gTLDs with Islamic identities to prevent their “misuse”;

    that the registration of any domain names of gTLDs must ensure that no religion is “offended”; that the sale of the .Islam and .halal domains should be preserved for Member States; and that OIC Member States should become active in ICANN."

    There it is. We Must Not offend the Savages!

    Obama made it clear from the start his goal was to knock the USA down a few pegs. This is just one more step toward that goal.

    The UN wants to put a clamp on free speech and so does Obama. All signed and proposed UN agreements are the guidelines for the Obama presidency and his administration. The FEC has said they are about to regulate what is said on the internet, talk radio, TV, newspapers, etc. I'm sure he doesn't care if other countries put clamps on our freedom of speech as well. He'll appreciate being absolved of responsibility for it even though it is he who is giving up control of the internet..

    I believe the history books will report that President Obama was masterful at hiding his intentions. Note the speculations over the last few years about if he is a socialist, a communist, a fascist, a Muslim or just a tool of the bankers. Nobody knows. Obviously he was put into office (having appeared out of nowhere) for reasons but nobody can home in on what those reasons are.

    While I do not like USA "relinquishing control" over the internet to the international community, it is a fact that it has grown beyond our control and that information wants to be free. Sure, totalitarian governments will pervert it within their domain but our authoritarian government has done virtually nothing to reign it in. If Uncle Sam wanted to make money he would tax pornography. If he wanted to control the net he would be able to do something about gambling. If he wanted to vacuum up all information on America's citizens.... oh wait, the NSA has been doing that since J Edgar Hoover. I don;t like it but so far it seems to not have any very bad effect. The potential is great and there may be hidden sinister plans, but so far no evidence if all that info actually being used against Americans. If I want something to be private I just don;t put it on the net. Snowden didn't tell us anything we haven't known for the last couple or 3 decades. If you want something private, put a stamp on a letter and use USPS or Fed-ex.

    Besides, nothing We The People can do about this issue anyway.

    Except maybe have some fun by employing what we learned from science fiction in the 1930s and 50s: GIGO. Garbage in =m garbage out. One doesn't need superior weapons to defeat The Terminator. One only needs to feed the computer false data.

    I call it street theater. It is a performance art form ;)

    You may be able to discern that I am a human and not a smart computer but I have led you to believe I have recently obtained a job as a truck driver. Is that the truth or a clever fiction? If you were the Federal government you could track my smartphone and cross reference it against other tracking methods and probably figure it was true. But what if I am a spy or drug dealer or pimp or just an old fart with a trailer, a snowbird? That would be hard to pin down without human attention and in a nation of 325 million people, one has to make such a splash that it gets someone's attention. That's actually pretty hard to do. Most Americans live under the radar, as God intended.

    Isn't this what Republicans want, the government out of its business?

    After all, you're the ones who always claim the US government makes things worse.
