how to fix c:/windows/system32/Conime.exe missing error at the startup.?
I tried to disable this coming up at the start by going to msconfig but when go to start -run-msconfig, i get a messege saying msconfig is missing.regedit is missing as well. I currently have windows xp homes basic installed. I tried to upgrade it to windows 8 consumer preview once.this is probably when all this files started missing .i was unsecseful of installing windows 8 and now i have a two boot options at the start (windows 8 and earlier versions).windows 8 doesn't work.
my computer is a dell gx260.if anyone have the recovery xp home basic please email me.thank you so much

Recovery discs should be available from Dell, and most of their XP systems shipped with XP installation CDs.
I suggest that you obtain or borrow a copy of the XP Home with SP3 OEM edition CD, with which you can repair the XP installation. A CD containing SP2 or earlier will not work.

You will need to do a FULL reinstall deleting all partitions and creating anew one to load on. There is no going back form attempting a Windows 8 install. you iwll need the exact copy of Xp that was loaded on your machine or your serioa;l number will not work to activate it.
