Do everyday Aussies realise just how widespread this is, in Australia?

Particularly the bit about girls being taken out of school to be married. Happening all the time in my area. I think the chattering classes need to really understand the attitudes and values of so many of the people we are all being so 'careful' about offending.

Check out this story.

I saw a piece on News24 this afternoon about that, there will be more about it this evening I think they said.

This practice of forced marriage is so very wrong.

Of course violence within marriage, all across the Australian community, is far more widespread than most of us realise. Violence in marriage is not confined to any particular section of the community and it's nearly always a dark secret kept from others.

Although I'm sure we all know at least one woman (usually) who has escaped a violent relationship. There would be others we know who have not mentioned what they have been through.

The men in these relationships are usually philanderers who use emotional abuse as well as physical abuse.

OzNana, I put my comment in the wrong spot. But I do not agree with it, and laws have been put in place over here to protect these young women, after the tragic murder of a family, because the daughter did not agree to an arranged marriage.

  • There is an Afghan in Melbourne, known to the police as a sex criminal, just arrested and released again after being picked up near a school. HE says he is doing nothing wrong, it is normal behaviour in Afghanistan, so, according to the "chattering classes" the Labor/Greens P.C brigade, he should be allowed to roam the streets until we have another Jill Meagher on our hands!

EDIT. His name is Ali Jaffari, a convicted child sex predator, and a loony magistrate released him on the grounds it was his natural native behaviour. And the bleeding hearts are letting them into the country??????

I would say that the "chattering classes" are very well aware of this, it is the non-chattering lumpenproletariat who are not and do not care even of they are aware. It is the lumpenproletariat that the liberal party depends on for they vote to get them government.

Now at some time in the future the federal government may take some steps about this. At the moment though they are preoccupied with with an easily serviceable deficit, cutting pensions, replacing cheap generic drugs in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme with more expensive in-patent ones for the benefit of drug companies and cutting the science budget.

well I for one am quite aware of how prevalent the practice is in our own country and disgracefully so

without being anti-woman there is a point I would like to raise here

having been through a mixed race marriage and run away from what minty is talking about in a way I place some of the blame on the way the women raise their sons and then when they marry on how they let their ratbag husbands get away with things that should not be tolerated

stealing girls kidnapping them and forcing or selling them into marriage and/or slavery is going on all over the world in vast numbers in this day and time is a sad fact of the human condition

    OzNana... please could you explain

what you mean and who are "the chattering classes"

Australia has been too soft on migrants customs, beliefs and religion. This is criminal activity and it's high time it was knocked on the head.

In England Secondary teachers are given instruction on what red flags may be apparent concerning forced marriages and girls who may be going on "holiday" back to their home Moslem country. There are many cases particularly concerning Pakistan and Yemen where the children of such unions are property of the father, so the forced marriage mother has to choose her children or leaving.
