Who's responsibility is it my daughters or her teachers?

My 14 year old daughter has been suffering from undiagnosed myoclonic Seizures. We have kept a diary n feel it has something to do with flashing lights. My daughter had a seizure last night and we were recalling what she has done throughout the day to see if we can find a trigger. My daughter said in school she watched a war film with flashing images. I had words with her school and a senior member of staff said my daughter should be more aware and cautious of what she's watching. Isn't that the teachers job to ensure that my daughter don't watch films with flashing images, how is my daughter supposed to know if the film has flashing images if she's never seen it before.

Update:

Her school does know about the seizures. I'm sick of talking to them as they are useless. She said my daughter needs to address the situation and if my daughter feels it's necessary she can leave the room sounds very unprofessional and not bothered to me :/

She's a teenager. In the same way she'd be responsible for carrying an inhaler for asthma or not eating something she's allergic to, she's old enough to be responsible for this as well. Each teacher sees upwards of 200 students PER DAY and you expect them to remember the specifics of one of them. Your daughter only has to be responsible for herself. Seems like a given that you would expect your daughter to be able to tell the teachers when the movie starts flashing, "Flashing lights give me seizures. I need to leave the room."

PS You need to get it diagnosed and get a doctor's note otherwise the school doesn't have to let her leave the room.

It is probably the schools responsibility, unless they had asked if any students have medical conditions in the beginning of the year. If the school already knew about this, it is definitely their fault. At home when you watch a movie or play a game, a seizure warning pops up so the movie producers cant be blamed but if the teacher gave no warning it is their fault. The school should have warned the students about the movie before playing it. I know in my school when movies like that are shown, they have the parents sign permission slips. I would just make sure that you let all her teachers know about the problem and the school nurse if you already haven't. If you had told them early about her condition, it probably would not have been a problem.

It isn't the teacher's responsibility to know if your daughter has seizures or not. Next time your daughter should ask not to watch the video and have an alternate assignment instead. She did sit through the whole video...

YOUR responsibility to GET it diagnosed for sure. YOUR responsibility to give YOUR daughter a note for EACH teacher and to make sure YOUR daughter TELLS each teacher that she has a problem with flashing lights at the beginning of class!

Teachers are there to TEACH not to be scape goat to parents that don't PARENT!

If her school does not know about the seizures, then how can it be the teacher's fault?? Seizures are not a common problem and I have no idea why you haven't told your daughter's teachers. They need to know!

Neither. It's yours. If your daughter has a medical condition that requires special precautions, then YOU are responsible for providing the school with medical documentation and and doctor' s instructions. If you don't do that and your daughter suffers as a result, it is completely your fault.

If her doctor says flashing lights or images can cause seizures, she should be excused from watching movies. She should have a doctor's note distributed to everyone who will take charge of her.

If you are just figuring out that it's flashing lights, how do you expect the teacher to know this? Teachers are not medical professionals. "Undiagnosed" means "not diagnosed"- that is, you have no medical opinion backing you up. A 14 year old is not a child. If she had a food allergy, you'd expect her to say, "I'm sorry. I can't eat the lovely cookies you offered me because I'm allergic to peanuts." If she goes around expecting everyone else to know what's wrong with her, she's going to have a lot of problems.

You need to get professionals in your corner. First, get a diagnosis for your daughter that can be kept on record in her file. Then get a student study team meeting and a 504 plan that gives her teachers specific guidelines about what to consider in class for this student. Your daughter needs to talk to her doctor, physician's assistant, or health counselor to keep herself safe, because at 14 she will be other places besides school and she needs that skill. Finally, if the school seems uncooperative or you feel you need support, there are special ed activists who can go with you, be a witness, and help you ask the right questions.
