Can you help me understand?

Ray Rice appears to have knocked out his now-wife, and tried dragging her through the casino hotel (which is more dumb....hitting her or trying to drag her out of a casino?). Although Rice has pleaded not guilty to the assault charges (probably to get a lesser plea bargain?)...he has issued these statements through his lawyer: "they had a disagreement, he made a mistake, he is ashamed of his actions and sorry". Ray Rice is not suspended or fined. I know this is not the Miami Dolphins or the NBA...but you would think that beating your girlfriend is not consistent with the values and standards of the Ravens organization. Quite the contrary actually. GM Ozzie Newsome has said "he is clearly in our plans for 2014" and "we know there is much more to Ray Rice than this one incident". Raven's owner Steve Biscotti supports Rice...saying "If everybody was one strike and you're out, then we all would be in trouble". And then asked whether he was concerned about his team's image, Bisciotti said, "I'm disappointed, but I'm not concerned."

Miami suspends/fines Don Jones for tweeting "OMG" and "Horrible" (not a crime, but Dolphins deemed it not consistent w/ values of organization. Donald Sterling is banned for life for asking girlfriend to not bring blacks to NBA games or publicize pics of her w/ blacks. Again, no crime...but NBA deemed it unacceptable.

Is beating women more tolerable than being prejudice?

Update:

The Ravens seem concerned that the courts will force Ray Rice to miss time away from football. Wow!. How do you think the Hardy incident in Carolina will play out? Same as Rice?

Miami is still Smart-ing (pun intended) from the Incognito Incident last season, so you had to know that they were going to overreact to anything that happened this season. Jones learned that the hard way.

As for Rice, when he's found (or pleads) guilty to ag assault any punishment that's handed down will come from the fascist on Park Avenue in NYC. The Ravens actually encourage the type of behavior Rice exhibited so they won't do anything to the lad.

Beating? First of all, it was one punch and then he dragged her. It wasn't a mauling ala Rodney King. Secondly, was she not arrested for assault too? Convenient how you and many leave that part out. She certainly wasn't Little Miss Innocent, not by a long shot. Is it OK for women to hit men but not the other way around? Thirdly, they got married AFTER the fact. Was she forced into the marriage? What is this, Kenya? Was she sold to Ray Rice via sex slavery? The fact that they got married literally RIGHT AFTER the incident, indicates to me that the entire thing clearly wasn't as bad as you want to think it is. Was Ray right for doing it? No. But really, stop comparing how intolerable in nature two completely different types of wrong are. Apples and oranges. You really need to open up your eyes more. When you are an owner of a team, you can't say what Sterling did. People don't understand the concept of the first amendment. You have a right to free speech but you also have a right to face the consequences of those speeches. Free speech protects you from the GOVERNMENT taking action against you and that's IT. NOT private companies which is what the NBA is. As for Don Jones, as an EMPLOYEE of the Miami Dolphins, if he goes to social media and says something that could affect how others view the team, yes, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will be punished for it. See the link below. Read it. Study it. Know it. Knowledge is power.

All really good points, unfortunately there are a lot of hands in Ray Rice's pocket, so as long as he's a commodity to the NFL and it's sponsors, it doesn't really matter what we think.
