Why do the Catholic Church think that Mary is catholic when she was jewish?

Why would she be catholic? And why is she so worshipped ? She isn't worshipped in the Protestant churches. Jesus was always telling people to look to God not him, he never made a reputation for his self so why exhalt his mother?. The church seems to leave God out and worships Peter who could not have been a pope. And Mary and the man Jesus . All of them were Jewish and Peter was married. Jesus was the rock the stone the builders rejected became the corner stone. The foundation was the Apostles and prophets. We are builded together for an habitation of God through the spirit.

Catholicism wasn't even in the picture at that time. She was Jewish but I guess it's because she's seen as a saint. Protestants from what I hear don't worship saints only god.

    Because they don't.

    Jesus was Jewish, too.

We know that all those people were Jewish. That is made clear in the text. Catholics as a group did not come along until later, but it all started with a group of Jews taking a radical step in their Faith after having met God in the flesh, Jesus Christ. I take it from your text that you don't accept the divinity of Christ, even though He plainly said, "I and the Father are one" and "he who has seen me has seen the Father." We exalt the Mother of God, Mary, because of what she did for the world. We do not worship Peter, nor do we leave God out of anything. I doubt you know anything at all about a Catholic Mass or what we believe.

We call Peter the first Pope because he was the first in line after Christ, given the Keys to the Kingdom by Christ, and entrusted to pass that authority along throughout human history. We can trace a line of leaders of the Church on earth, now called Popes, back through 2000 years of history and 265 men so far. We call this the "Line of Peter". Yes, we know Peter was married. What of it?

Yes, we are built together for an habitation for God, the Body of Christ on earth, the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church.

How do people come up with such nonsense? It just gets more outrageous every time.

Mary the mother of Jesus was Jesus' truest disciple.

Mary is not worshiped, she never has been and she never will be.

His mother is exalted because God exalted her first when the angel Gabrielle in the bible, proclaimed Hail full of Grace the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women. (Look it up) Without Mary there would be no Jesus in the flesh.

Catholics worship God ONLY and nobody else.

Peter is an apostle of Jesus he is not worshiped he was a sinner like you and I.

Jesus told Peter, upon this rock I will build my Church. Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Same as the old Queen in England. She could become a Queen or a King even before getting born.

    O.K. You didn't get it!

Mary and all those guys of that era couldn't be christian because it didn't exist at that time.

Then what about that old Queen?

In fact I was talking of that little boy that might be King a day ... way longer before proving that he is smart enough for the job.

We True Christians do not need anything from Mary.

You have to understand that the Catholics play by their own rules and not the rules of God. Catholicism is a mixture of Christianity and Paganism. The Catholics believe God needs the help of Mary. Mary was a sinner, Mary sinned, and Mary died and was buried. But yet the Catholics teach just the opposite. They say Mary was born sinless, that Mary never sinned, and that Mary was assumed into Heaven.

The Catholics need to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The catholic church is constantly making new saints. The original idea of bringing Mary into the catholic church was to give all the women someone they could pray to. It got the women interested in their religion again. I suspect that is why the Catholics keep finding new people to induct into sainthood.

I just love when Mary is pictured with blonde hair and blue eyes--your typical Jewish girl more then two thousand years ago

  • It might sound a bit trite - but Jesus grew up in a Jewish family. His mother was Jewish, her name was "Miryam", the most common Hebrew name for a woman in that era. His earthly step-father was "Yosef" whose Jewish lineage you can trace in the two Gospel accounts which I have already mentioned. Yosef was the second most common Hebrew name in that period.

The name of Jesus in Hebrew is "Yeshua". I could go on a sidetrack to talk about that name, and the significance of Him being called "Yeshua", and how it eventually came to be called "Jesus", but I will not. I will simply pause to say that "Yeshua" was a common Hebrew name in those days. There were many other Jewish boys around at that time whose name was Yeshua.

Jesus also taught the Hebrew Scriptures.

    Jesus kept the Feasts

    Jesus kept the Sabbath

Jesus was a Jew. His followers at the start were ALL Jews. His Ancestry was Jewish. His family was Jewish. His upbringing was Jewish. His own life's practices were thoroughly Jewish, in what He said, in the way He spoke, in what He did, even in the way He dressed.

When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, (Luke 19:41)

He WAS/IS the Messiah of Israel and came to Fulfill the Jewish Torah. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matthew 5:17)

Dr. Michael Brown has given definitive answers to virtually all of the arguments using Rabbinic (Talmudic) sources and a correct interpretation of scripture that even the ancient Rabbis agreed with! (Not that they believed in Yeshua, but Dr. Brown shows they understood certain passages as Messianic prophecies – contrary to what you hear on Yahoo Answers from people who say “This is not a Messianic passage’).
