Your pups size and development is controlled by his genetics, not by what he eats although good nutrition will help him grow healthy and to the maximum for his genetic program.
Poor nutrition can lead to weak bone formation.
Do NOT over exercise your puppy or this can cause joint problems, especially in later life.
Exercise should be at the pups own pace until he is about a year old and no jumping up, over, or down from heights of over 18 inches until he is older and not at all until he is about 7-8 months old.
As Lorraine points out...do not over feed your dog in the hope of making him grow big. All this will do is make your dog overweight and prone to excess pressure on his joints, lungs and heart which is not at all good.
Gsd`s come in all shapes and sizes these days (unfortunately) and health and soundness and a good temperament is more important than size.

No we don't know !!!! You can only make your dog what he is genetically programmed to be.
Good nutrition is vital but so is CAREFUL exercise so don't run the butt off of him as a puppy otherwise you will end up with a crippled gsd.
Just GOOD nutrition to get him to the size he SHOULD be according to his genetics and nothing else.
You can't MAKE a dog big built and huge. Well ..... you can make them huge and FAT but that won't do you, your money or the dog much good at all.

One, a good quality diet is essential for his growth (you don't want really fast growth either, you want it to be slow and controlled, otherwise it places too much pressure on joints and he won't grow right). Keep him at a good weight, so not over or under.
Two, he needs free exercise, as in he chooses when to start and stop. Only short slow mild walks until he's 12-18 months old. Avoid stairs, jogging or running on lead, hard core fetching, jumping etc until he's that age too. Over exercising is bad for joints and can lead to hip and elbow dysplasia and arthritis. Too much muscle when young also, if I remember correctly, interfere with growth and is overall bad. Once your dog is 18 months you can start exercising him more, gradually building his endurance and muscle.

I believe the best diet is a natural diet. Check with your local pet store to see what your options are. They will also be able to show you which is the right one for his age. Younger dogs/pups need more protein than older dogs. Plus, you may want to go all natural and they can help you with this too. You can do research about all natural diets for GSDs online. The one sport that I know to definitely build muscle mass, but not until he is finished growing or you could injure him permanently, is pulling. You can look that up also. I don't know a lot about it, just that it takes a lot of strength to do it, but of course you have to start out slow. With whatever you do, consult with your veterinarian for advice prior to doing it. Either way, as the previous to posters stated, genetics is going to play a major role. You can only do so much outside of genetics. Plus, you don't want your GSD to bulked up or he will looked deformed, it's not he's an English Bulldog. Just remember the health and welfare of your baby should come first. Good Luck and Happy Paws

the GSD is not meant to be huge. its a HERDING dog for crying out loud.
Stop projecting your own insecurities onto your dog. He will develop the way his genes and good exercise say he will. There is ZERO reason you need to beef up a DOG.
