If there really was no God, would there still be atheists?

You believe that God exists. Fine and well. Imagine for a moment that God did not exist, and had never existed. In this imaginary universe, all that exists is matter an energy. There is nothing supernatural at all, meaning there are no souls and no supernatural beings or places. There are still people walking around, but they are purely physical beings. Most of them don't know this, so they think they have souls, but they don't really. Lots of them also think there's a god, but we know they're wrong, because in our imaginary universe there is no god. Others believe that stories about supernatural things are made up. In this case they happen to be correct, and their disbelief is justified because there isn't, and there can't be, any reliable evidence for anything supernatural.

I contend that such a universe is completely indistinguishable from the real universe.

It depends on whether or not there are theists. Atheism means "without theism," so I suppose you could make an argument that if no one was a theist then no one would be an atheist either, but does it really matter?

I'm referring to the term "atheist," not whether or not people don't believe in a god.

Yes. Atheism, like theism, is grounded on a "belief" system of persuation. It is an "ism" hence, it belongs to the realm of the mind. Hence, God or no God, there would still be atheists..

Yes, they'd just take on a different form and name...like amoeba...or blood sucking chest wound.

    Yep

There's no faeries, and still people don't believe in faeries.

Atheists exist only because theists are insecure and needed a place to put their hatred.

Since there would be no theism, the would be no atheism. There wouldn't be a word for people who didn't believe in a god.

Nope. There would be no such thing as an atheist if God didn't exist. Atheists are not wise... Do they really believe some ape-humans sat around and decided to come up with a made up God for over half the world to believe just for the hell of it?? Lol. Obviously God is real if more people are theists than atheists. God has revealed Himself to several people, myself included!

    Smh at the mindless atheists...
