Is it wrong or a bad idea to date a recovering addict?

We met while he was in rehab and were just friends. Now a year later and he's been sober for over a year and doing well for himself I wonder if that's still too soon for a recovering addict to be in a relationship.

Also is a 27 y/o man too old for a 22 year old girl?

    I don't think it's a situation I'd want to get into.

When I was younger, I didn't know any better but now, years of life experience have opened my eyes.

    I just think it's too high-risk

I wouldn't put myself in that position, I have zero patience for addicts.

but as long as you realize relapse is always going to be a possibility, no matter how much time has passed. if you can handle that, then go for it.

I completely agree with her answer. Im currently with a recovering addict, opiates. It takes well over a year, UP TO 10 to honestly kick the ****. Chances of relapse are 98.87%. That's a high number love. I deal with theft, heartbreak and lies daily. Once an addict, usually ALWAYS an addict. Except for the fortunate few. Don't put yourself in my shoes, because it isn't worth it. The struggle, disparity is too much. Having to watch your loved one relapse time and time again not knowing if they'll wake up the next morning breaks you. Even though you aren't doing it, you'll be paying the price as if you were.

Sounds like he will just waste away your youth. Find someone more stable and save yourself the hassle.
