For about a decade
I had been absorbing the dogma of my family's religion
(Roman Catholic), with hardly a question.
But I finally got old enough to realize
that some parts contradicted other parts,
and I assumed I must have gotten some things wrong
or was looking at them wrong.
So I started asking a lot of questions
and working hard to put it all into clear, logical order.
But the harder i worked
the more loose ends popped up
and the less consistent the whole mess got.
Finally, it occurred to me
that the only way to make any sense of it
was to understand it all
as a few thousand years of cultural baggage
and human emotional need and imagination.
And my faith evaporated.
That was in 1966.

Believe it or not, it was a decision on my part to memorize every word that Jesus said, because I wanted to be a better Christian. I committed myself to 1/2 hour every night for this purpose. Within a few months, I was a devout follower of the teachings of Jesus, an ex-Christian, and a spiritual atheist.

There is no god that I know of to lose faith in. If you show me one, and it meets my standards of morality, perhaps, I might reconsider.
(I've noticed that a string of honest answers to your question have received a thumbs down. How revealing!)

The fact that God is a fictional character. As soon as I found out God was a fictional character, I stopped having faith in anything.

Theodicy, the problem that the bible does not adequately answer-why we suffer.

One who completely loses faith in God, most likely is a false convert, they never repented of their sin, never put their trust in Jesus Christ, and were never born again.
That does not mean that Christians do not have struggles with their faith. But a true born again Christian will not abandon the faith, because that faith is a gift from God and God never fails.

Unanswered prayers in times of great need, and not feeling the love. I've heard this from many friends and family.

Knowledge and critical thinking is how I freed myself from believing in gods. I haven't "lost" anything.
