How to get rid of fire smoke smell in wood?
I have a bed that was in a house fire and it has a wooden frame and slats. Ive already tried bi carb and vinegar to absorb the smell, but it is still so strong and I washed it as well in soapy water and hosed it off and let it dry, the small is still there. A painter who is painting the house where the fire was said he will paint over the wooden walls with high gloss paint and then a matt paint to lock the smoke smell in the wood, I thought I could do the same with the bed but maybe with varnish but I dont know if that will lock in the small the same way and does anyone have any other ideas because I feel like varnish is my only option at the moment.

I really don't think too many things would or could take the smell of smoke out of anything.Clean flowing air, like put it outside on a semi warm/cool day, spray it with febreeze or a water+baking soda mixture and see if that works. I tried to salvage some furniture and dishes from my house fire and the dishes washed the odor away with no problem but all wood items still had the smoke odor after everything I tried. Wood has pores and heat opens up those pores and lets the odor seep into the wood.Painting or varnishing I doubt would help the matter either. You'd be adding another smell to the existing one.
