How do I get rid of the ants living in my veggie garden?
I apparently planted my lettuce, spinach, basil, cauliflower, and brocili in an area where there are now many ant hills. I went out to weed and water my garden yesterday and found thousands of little ants crawling all over my plants. I really didn't want to use pesticides, but I'm not sure how else to get rid of them.

Look at the plants underside of leaves for aphids. Ants "herd" aphids. If you have no aphids then the ants are no problem. They don't eat your plants and are just annoying. Every time you water just water the hills. They will eventually find a drier location. If you have aphids spray with soap and water.

Use some granule ant bait (like an Amdro product) and sprinkle it around the base of the plants. Some products can be watered in while others are used dry. Read instructions to verify they are safe on gardens but you should be OK with it and in about 24-48 hours these pests will be gone.
