What is over my dog's poop?

My 5 year old GSD goes to the toilet a lot but recently her poop is covered in this kind of slimy clear film over it. The poop is firm just has this clear slime casing it.

Mucus. The lining of the intestine.

When my dog had that covering her poop, she was found to have Giardia.

I gave her Coconut oil and MSM and Grapefruit Seed Extract with each meal, and that got rid of it . . . and, kept it from coming back.

(Probably just one of those things would have been sufficient,

but, I already had them all in the house, so I gave them all to her.

Take a stool sample and bring her to the vet - sounds like Giardia or a similar intestinal parasite.

    ● "What is over my dog's poop?"

You called it a "film", which sounds to me like the answer to "What is OVER (your) dog's poop".

So the real question should be "What CAUSES this clear film on my dog's poop?"

Giardia is a possibility, but as you have pointed out that her faeces are firm, to me that rules giardia out, as I would expect an infestation of giardia to cause chronic diarrhoea.

Definitely take a sample of your bỉtch's slimy faeces to the vet. But I expect his diagnosis to be one of the forms of pancreas deficiency.

If my guess is confirmed, you will be told to never again feed particular types of food to your pet ("eliminate all fats" is a common instruction), and to sprinkle a particular amount of the missing dietary enzyme over EVERY meal. Although there MIGHT be an inherited vulnerability to pancreas problems in some bloodlines, the actual disease is not inherited. Diabetes is a form of the disease that is common in humans - and diabeters has both a genetic version (it can affect a baby almost as of birth) and a developed version (it commonly affects people who over-eat and don't do enough exercise). It all depends on WHICH part of the pancreas has been ruined by viral disease, pollution, whatever. Once a part has been wrecked it can no longer produce the digestive enzyme that THAT part is supposed to produce. Some forms cause the sufferer to get extremely itchy and to just waste-away.

It's mucus, but we can't say what is causing it.

Have you changed her food lately? Is she going more frequently? There's a bunch of questions that your vet will ask, and this will help him/her decide which tests to run on her stool.
