  • Food after a HGE attack?

My GSD suffered an attack of HGE about 4weeks ago. After she came out of hospital she was put on prescription can food for a week and then boiled chicken and rice for 2 weeks. I could then add other food gradually but no grain. I've added salmon and sweet potato, poached eggs, non fibre vegetables, raw chicken necks and liver. However she has gone from from 35kg down to 26kg and still going. Can anyone help with her diet please and weight gain.

  • How to get rid of cat urine smell?

My cat was unwell and didn't use his litter box for some reason. He has gone somewhere in my lounge room but the smell is so overpowering that I cannot locate where. I have wooden floorboards and one rug. I mopped the floors but the smell is still really strong!

  • Fish and potato diet.?

My GSD has intestine and food allergy problems. The vet said to put her on just fish and potatoes for 6 weeks until she improves then introduce one food at a time. Does anyone know the quantities of this diet to feed her. Should the fish be raw and what type of fish. How much potato and fish ratio and what is the best foods to introduce after 6 wks. She's under weight now, will she lose heaps more from this? Many thanks.

  • How to keep my GSD happy?

I have a 5yr old GSD. I have recently been injured and I am unable to get out. My girl seems very sad, mopey and depressed. My friends have tried walking her but she is too strong and is naughty with them and often won't leave without me. Any ideas of what I can do with her at home. I can only kind of shuffle around. In her boredom, she has become food obsessed although she's not overweight and sleeps a lot.

  • Chicken Stroganoff?

I'm slow cooking (6hrs at least) some chicken thighs in garlic, french onion soup mix, freshly sliced mushrooms, half and half chicken stock with cream and water.

I would really love to throw in/hide some vegetables for my daughter.

I was thinking some hunks of Choko and perhaps then some broccoli only at the end.

    Any thoughts please.

  • Pancake Batter Question.?

I made some homemade pancake batter yesterday and put in the fridge.

Something can up and I didn't have time to cook them.

I've pulled the batter out this morning and it's really thick with heaps of air bubbles.

Can I save it or not. The batter was in the fridge for approx 18hrs.

  • A strong fetch toy for my dog?

I have a GSD who loves to run and fetch. However she destroys every ball you throw to her before she brings it back to you. We have tried sticks, she does the same thing. My friend the other day took her out and thought cricket & golf balls would work.....she came home with a broken tooth from trying to mangle them. You throw a rock into the lake and she submerges her head to find it leaving us with an ear infection.

Does anyone have any idea of a fetch something she cannot destroy within 5 minutes.

    Thank you

  • My dogs eating eggs.?

For over 2 years we have 5 Chinese Sylkie chickens in the backyard with our two dogs ( GSD & Border Collie). There has never been a problem until now. They love the girls and protect them including rounding them up at dusk if they are late going to the coop. However just recently when I leave the house one or both sneak in and steal and eat the eggs from their nest. I have shown them the broken shells and gone crook at them. I have also added pepper or chilli to the empty shell and rubbed their nose in it. They are normally very obedient but how do I stop them raiding the nest?

  • What is over my dog's poop?

My 5 year old GSD goes to the toilet a lot but recently her poop is covered in this kind of slimy clear film over it. The poop is firm just has this clear slime casing it.

  • Unsure of marinating in just acidic ingredients.?

I made a marinade with olive oil, crushed garlic, fresh lemon juice, balsamic vinegar and wine for a butterflied leg of lamb to BBQ.

    1. Is this too acidic for a marinade or should I add something else?

    2. I know acidic marinades tenderise but can get bitter if too long, so do I put in the fridge for a few hours or do I just rest it in the meat for 30 mins or so at room temp before putting on the bbq?

    Many thanks

  • How long does it usually take a dog to stop molting.?

It's coming to the end of summer and I have a short coat Shepherd that has been molting for just over a month now. I've never seen so much dog hair come off a short haired. There's 'tumbleweeds' down my hall and verandah every day. She has molted at least 4 times in the past 12 months. Is this usual as well?

  • What are some American food words that are different but mean the same in Australia or another country?

For example prawn - shrimp, chips - french fries, crumbed - breaded?, and cooking terms and ways do you bake in a crock pot - for us it's a slow cooker. Do you roast in the oven? Do you have any quirky terms or cooking methods? You seem to have a lot of " sauces" that people know about.

I'm quite interested and it leaves me a little baffled sometimes in the cooking recipe section as to what things mean at times.

  • How to encourage a green tree frog to stay.?

For two days I've had a large green frog hanging around my pot plants. Unfortunately I have 2 dogs and a cat that get excited when he appears (they haven't hurt or tried to date). Luckily I'm home on holidays at the moment and each time I find him and place back or around my planty fish pond. My 8yr old is just over the moon that's he's around. Can I help him to stay or will ultimately my other pets hurt him.

  • How to tell if my hen is a rooster?

I have 4 Chinese Silky chickens. The reputable breeder we bought them from when they were 6 weeks old said they were all definitely hens. They are now 3 months old and one is starting to crow just in the mornings when I let them out. She is not the dominant female and has no apparent physical male (that I can tell or perhaps he/she's still too young).

  • Best way to cook kebabs?

I've just made 20 marinated beef and vegetable kebabs overnight and just found out my bbq has died.

Can I bake them in the oven or do I have to fry them in a pan on the stove.

After the bbq, I don't have a grill.
