Why do people always ask the AK-47 vs M-16 comparison?

Wouldn't the AKM vs M-16 be a more apt comparison as both being designed and produced within fewer years than the AK-47 and M-16?

Mark F your a little troll who sits behind his computer screen ,and to make yourself feel more like a man you have to talk down to kids. Both rifles are antiques. The M-16 is not that great anymore which is why most military rifles use gas piston systems and on top of that the charging handle is in a weird position. Singapore abandoned the M-16 a long time ago and many countries are considering following suit. There are very few military rifles that do not use a gas piston system. The best rifle out there that I have seen is the SIG-550 which is much more reliable , very accurate, and very durable. The same people who think that we should be using the M-16 are the same people who think that we should be using the 9mm Beretta Handgun. There is a reason why the Soviets developed the concept of the Designated Marksman. Good luck having the direct impingement system not malfunction. There are newer and better guns out there than both the AK and the M-16.

They are both very common rifles. I'd prefer the AK-47 for its durability. Recoil can be a bugger, but a good grip will keep it straight.

Ak47 as well as M16 are signature weapons of russian and US superpowers.

AKM is newer design as AR15 is.

Its childish... my brother can beat your brother mentality.

The M-16 would not work when covered in mud but an AK-47 would.

Actually, since the AK-74M is the current standard issue Russian rifle and given that it is chambered in the 5.45x39mm, more on par with the 5.56x45mm, it should be compared with the M16/M4.

    1. The people asking don't know what an AKM is or that it went out of production more than a half-century ago.

    2. They are usually tweens and have never seen either weapon in person, let alone used one

  • because the kids.. -and kids in adult bodies, too- simply tend to simplify the universe around them. as such, they do compare two symbolic weapons of two respective superpowers, extending the performance of said weapons into a comparison of superpowers, too.

quite often, they are simply buzzing and reiterating things they've heard elsewhere, without any actual knowledge of both weapons in discussion. (shooting while covered in mud, degrading plastic toy, etc)

fun fact.... show those kids Sa-58.. they would think that's an AK; meanwhile, it's completely different and MORE RELIABLE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN design.

nevertheless, the actual comparison should be AK47 - M14..

Who knows? I used the M-16 in basic training when I was in the Air Force.
