What to do to get into Harvard?
Hello!
Well, I'm on summer break now. In a few months, I'll be a freshman in high school. I really want to do things during my high school year that'll get me into an Ivy League, preferably Harvard.
- I play volleyball, and I have high school tryouts on July 9. My volleyball team is nationally ranked in the top 40 in the USA. I will be playing this for four years.
- I play the violin. I will be joining the Youth Orchestra, and will be performing across the nation. I will also be doing this for four years.
- I will be volunteering at a local medical center for four years, every week for four hours. So by the middle of senior year, I'll have 700+ hours of volunteer hours.
- I will be a Special Events volunteer at my local library, and help out with events.
-I think I want to be an oncologist (cancer doctor) when I grow up. What else do you think I should do to get an ivy like Harvard to accept me? I'm really willing to work for it. In HS, I will also be doing Biology Olympiad, Chemistry Olympiad, Junior Math Olympiad, National Science Bowl, national honors society, Spanish honors society, and HOSA. I'll try to win awards for these clubs. I will also be entering national essay contests. I'm also planning on volunteering at a science laboratory the summer of sophmore year, and planning on taking science classes (Chemisty, Anatomy) at my local community college during the summer of my freshman year. Anything else I should make sure to do?
I will also try to maintain a 4.0+ GPA, 32+ ACT, 2200+ SAT, and will try to become a national merit scholar as well.

To get into Harvard, you will need four years of the same foreign language IN high school. Since you mentioned being a part of the Spanish Honor Society, I presume you'd take Spanish as your foreign language course so do take four years of that. Also, be sure to take four years of english, four-five years of math, four years of science, and three years of history. Take honors and AP courses because that's what competitive universities look for! To balance out homework with extracurricular activities, I'd suggest doing homework during lunch and as soon as you get home.
