Because once you have friends you also will have enemies. Too many friends can cause you to become the enemy.

I didn't know there was such thing as too many friends. Maybe its hard to keep up with them all and get close to them, but I still don't think its bad.

It's not bad to have heaps of friends. But
It's better to have a small group of close friends than a large group of just friends. You can have both of course, as long as you have that little group of, (or just one) best friend/s
