Jesus said it would be easier to jam a camel through the eye of a neeple than it would be for a rich person to?

get into heaven. Doesn't that sound like salvation is a lot harder to accomplish than simply acceptance

Read the passage in context. The man to whom Jesus was talking loved his wealth and would not give it up to follow Jesus. Jesus, in Matthew 6:24, said that "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." To follow Jesus you have to be willing to give up everything; you must pick up your cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24-25). Being rich is not a sin. It's what you do with the money you have--whether you idolize it and love it, or use it wisely, as a responsible steward--that is sinful or not (1 Timothy 6:9-11).

    Nice paraphrase.

But I think salvation is easy, but that's not what he is talking about; the initial saving process. What he is talking about is the way people learn to trust in things. A rich man can throw money at every problem they have. They tend not to learn to trust God with things because they can take care of them with money.

It's not just becoming saved. Salvation is a process you take through life. It's a practice.

Actually when you read the whole passage, immediately following that statement Christ says "What is impossible for man is made possible through God." Thus a great example of the dangers of cherry picking scripture out of context.

No, remember what he said to Peter in that passage, read it in context. "With man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible"...We are not saved by our goodness, but by Gods goodness. Its by his unmerited gift given to us that we are saved and nothing else can save us. Not riches or power or wealth or good deeds. See the rich young ruler started out with the right question, but he had the wrong answer to Jesus question...Why do you call me good no one is good but God? If he had said what Nicodemus said "We know you are from God for no one could do the works you do unless God were with him" Then Jesus would have told the rich young ruler what he needed to know to be saved (That he had come to save the world and whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.) because he would have known that the Holy Spirit had sent him. But instead he had no answer. So Jesus knew that he had come on his own and did not understand, he was just another self righteous jew. So Jesus told him to do something he knew the young man would never do. Give away everything.

John 3:16-21 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who BELIEVES in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who BELIEVES in him. But anyone who does not BELIEVE in him has already been judged for not BELIEVING in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

I also think salvation is easy but salvation does come with some sacrifice. People with a lot of stuff are less likely to sacrifice it. And rich people tend to not believe in God anyway. They believe only in themselves.
