Do you think a second degree in Philosophy is worth it ?

I'm studying Business and Philosophy also. I'm in the first year. While I'm sure that having a Business degree is worth it, I'm not sure about Philosophy. I like to study Philosophy, but I'm not sure that studying it in college is actually worth it. It takes a lot of time and it is very selective because of the teachers' preferences. Basically I could study it on my own.

The question is : is getting a degree in Philosophy worth it if I'm studying in the Business field ?

Update:

@Pooky : Yes, I know it. But many acquaintances said that having two degrees is a useful thing, especially because a Philosophy degree can be really valuable if I have a Business degree also.

"I like to study Philosophy, but I'm not sure that studying it in college is actually worth it."

Holden, it all depends on how you define "worth it." And not everyone has the same definition. For example:

My husband has always wanted to buy an old car to restore, so he recently bought an old '55 Studebaker at a junkyard. It's in terrible shape... fixing it up will take years and will probably cost more money than the car will be worth if he ever sells it. Some folks would say that restoring this car isn't "worth it" - and they'd be right, if his goal was to make money. But it's not. He's doing it for the enjoyment, for the learning experience, for the feeling of accomplishment he'll have when he completes it. And he'll end up with a cool old car to cruise around in that he fixed up himself. Those things have more value to him than the time and money he'll spend attaining them.

A second degree in Philosophy may or may not make you more marketable. That will depend on the type of business you get into, the individual employer, and how much they value a knowledge of philosophy. If this is the *only* reason you're considering it, then it will be a gamble; it might be worth it, or it might not. However, if you genuinely enjoy it and feel that it will be rewarding and enriching, and if earning a degree in philosophy will give you a feeling of pride and accomplishment, then I'd say it would definitely be worth it. There are many things worth doing that you can't put a price tag on.

Philosophy degree is not a career training degree / major.

What do you think it will do for you when you look for a job.
