    The altitude on hypotenuse theorem states that all three triangles (the original plus the two created by the altitude) are similar to each other. Therefore, proportions of corresponding sides of the triangles are equal. So,

    PQ:PR=PD:DR=DQ:PD

    It helps if you draw the triangles.

    PQ and PR are 1:1, or the same length, since if you draw out the figure you get two congruent 45, 45, 90 triangles and PR and PQ are corresponding sides
