yea i know how you feel. last year when i was a senior in high school, i took ap biology. and i thought that it was impossible. mainly because the assigned textbook were so extensive. The text was hard to understand because of its wording. If it were a normal high school textbook i would've read like 20 pages in an hour. but it was an AP college textbook so I read only like 8 pages an hour. luckily, my principal was a corrupt bully and was threatened by my AP teacher's high credentials and the fact that my teacher was be ruining her school's reputation for high grades/academic superiority cuz he was giving out such low grades to us since AP bio course was so hard. Therefore, my AP teacher was forced to not give any homework or exams for the last 6 months of school. Our grades were determined by attendance, appearance in class and minimal fake work. So, I never had to get over it like you even when i was taking the course. My recommendation is to just go to your teacher and tell him/her you're not getting it. Also, there are chapter outlines for some AP books. Search the chapter outline for your textbook. It will teach you without having to comprehend those long difficult to read passages. Another thing about AP courses are that college courses will not be as of a shock to you as the average college freshman who has never taken any college courses before. Your workload in an AP course is probably an accurate example of the amount of work you'll be faced with in college.

Now that you have vented, you need to decide whether or not you are capable of handling AP classes. There is probably about 20 hours of summer work per class (depending on the class, the assignments and your abilities). You will have at least an hour of homework for each class every night during the school year.

If you are not driven to excel and/or not interested in the subject, AP is really painful. Worse, you probably will not do well in the class or on the AP test -- thus negating the purpose of taking the class in the first place.

Give it a couple more days. Just set aside an hour or two and buckle down. If you feel this is beyond you, get an appointment with your counselor and your mom to look at options. I expect you mom wants you to have the best possible chance at college, but ultimately you are the one who has to do the work and put in the time.

    Good Luck!

Think about why you're doing all of this. You're doing this AP work because you want to be either

    A) Prepared for college or college life/work.

    B) To get college credit and to make your college career easier.

    C) For the accomplishment and the ability to say that you completed an extremely difficult class.

Don't give up! Don't give in! This AP class will extremely help you when you apply for colleges. It raises your overall GPA as well. Keep at it, get your homework done early, then enjoy summer. You could probably knock out everything in under three or four weeks, then you could enjoy the rest of your summer.

Keep at it and just hammer through, good luck!!!!!

There can't be THAT much summer work. You have 2 or more months to do it...imagine if you had to do that within the school week! Be grateful.
