Has anyone recovered PPI insurance?

This question is for United Kingdom only.

Has anyone recovered PPI insurance and, if so, how long did it take?

We put in a claim to Bank of Scotland, which they rejected then we sent all the relevant paperwork to the Financial Ombudsman 2 YEARS AGO. My hubby got a loan from BOS for a new van for his builder's business. He was told, as he was over 50 years old, that he wouldn't get the loan unless he took out this insurance.

We have since read an article in a newspaper that self-employed people should never have been sold PPI, as they were not eligible to make a claim. So, we were obviously mis-sold the insurance.

All these adverts from companies saying they will reclaim the insurance for you and you don't need any paperwork - we have every piece of paperwork regarding the insurance and sent copies to the Financial Ombudsman. 2 years seems a long time. Is anyone waiting longer?

I claimed for 4 and they all went through the FO. They did send me letters every now and again. They all took 2 -3 years. We were mis-sold because we were self employed and told we had to have PPI. All the banks refuse to pay up as they hope you will go away.

The FO is inundated, but it worked. Look forward to a nice cheque, all your payments plus 8% interest. I bought a new car. !!

My friend went through a claims company and they took 40% in fees. DIY and you get it all as I did.

Wow, 3 years. Looks like we have another year to wait at least. I have sent two letters asking for updates but just get a standard letter back saying they are inundated with claims. I won't give up hope yet.

The Ombudsman state that an appeal through them takes an absolute minimum of 18 months. You can ring them for a progress report.

I banked a cheque yesterday that finally came after nearly 3 years !

That was from Barclays for a mis sold mortgage.

'Who' has not THE slightest idea what he's talking about. As we all know, they couldn't stipulate the insurance was a condition of the loan, it's that tactic which has been ruled illegal and is costing the banks billions in refunds.

You say he was told that ppi insurance was a requirement in order to get the loan

    Question is-

is it a fact that the insurance was required, or was he just told this in order to get him to take it out

If it was required then he is not entitled to a refund

In this case its irrelevent that being self employed he could not claim.

Being over 50 it was a requirement he had ppi in order to get the loan,

So he was not "missold" it. - it was a condition of getting the loan.

He should have either gone somewhere else to get ppi which DID cover him, or got the loan from somewhere else which didnt require it

Give the Ombudsman a ring and ask for an update.
