Have you ever seen a laundry hamper/basket made out of solid wood?

Hello.

I am thinking of creating my own laundry hamper/drawers for my bathroom so it is easier to sort out my dirty clothes and clothes I can wear again (pajamas). I also wanted to make my own hamper because I think most are unattractive and they do not suit my needs. However, I have noticed that almost no hampers are made out of solid wood.

Do you think that if I made a hamper out of solid wood, that it wood start to smell over time? Should I put a screen or a aluminum decorative sheet on one side? Like this

I just wanted to hear your ideas about whether it would start to make the wood smell after a while. I did a little searching but I could not find the info I was searching for.

Yes, I have made many of them, but you need to get a canvas liner made for the size you are using so the hamper doesn't get wet or pick up odors.

I think it would pick up an odor real quick. There are so many hampers on the market, I thought of making myself one, but I was able to find one that fit the space we have for it perfectly. It's wicker and I bought it at Target.

Being Rattan, it breathes and doesn't pick up an odor. It looks good in any decor, and it has a liner inside that can be removed with velcro straps and washed also. The flat back makes it fit well almost anywhere along a wall.

I'll sometimes make my own shelving or other small furniture pieces, but I calculated my time and the wood materials to make my own hamper, and decided it was well worth it just to buy this.

Solid wood would lock in any moisture or odors.. Maybe learn to make something wicker?
