Lower jaw tooth extractions for braces?

Hello.I've been told I may need surgery on my upper jaw to expand it in order to create a better bite(I'm 33 by the way),my upper canines were removed when I was 13 instead of braces and this has lead to multiple problems. My current orthodontist says that the best solution is to expand my upper jaw surgically and make my lower jaw smaller by extracting two teeth then applying braces. Is anyone on here a dentist/orthodontist who can give general advice as to whether this probably the best option(I know you can't be 100% without seeing the inside of my mouth) but just to get some idea.

Thanks in advance.

I do not work in the dental field but maybe you should get a second opinion before you have all of this expensive and painful work done.
