What is God's view of smoking?
Romans 6:16
"Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness?"
When an individual’s thinking and actions are dominated by a craving for tobacco, he soon becomes a slave to a degrading practice.
Jehovah, wants us to be free, not only from practices that harm our body but also from those that corrupt our spirit, that is, our dominant mental inclination. (Psalm 83:18; 2 Corinthians 7:1)

When an individuals thinking and actions are dominated by what the governing body tells them, he soon becomes a slave to a man made organization.
Jehovah want us to be free, not only from practices that harm our body, but also from men who corrupt our spirit with false doctrines and interpretations of prophecy.

Among the things that have been listed as sinful, smoking a cigarette or tobacco isn't among them. It's nosy, intrusive, and abusive people who think tobacco is the biggest sin on earth. You can be an adulterer in a "church congregation" and be accepted but don't you dare step outside and smoke a cigarette. That's tantamount to murder. How ignorant.

"19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Cor 6:19-20

He is against anything that defiles the flesh, causes death and shows total disrespect for him and for our neighbors.
Tobacco use is addictive, harms those who smoke and does even worse damage to those who have to endure their second-hand smoke. It is a nasty habit and very difficult for most tobacco addicts to break free from.
Women who smoke while pregnant even cause damage to their unborn child.
Tobacco use is not something a true Christian will even consider.
If a person is addicted to tobacco, they can get help through prayer and the determination to please God.
It may seem difficult, but it is certainly not impossible. Jehovah will help those who sincerely want to rid themselves of every defilement of the flesh.

For Christians, this applies as well:
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body"

The bible principle you mention defiles the flesh. So for those who may want to argue that the Bible does not state specifically a prohibition (you won't find any where in the Bible that specifically says that you cannot or should not smoke), its the bible principle that we need to look at.

It is no different to the sex slave; the food junkie; the fornicator; the adulterer; or any other bodily exercise, that comes between us and God and prevents or diminishes us from serving God's Ultimate purposes for our lives. Even the workaholic, and the drug addict can fall into this bracket. Included into your scripture, is Romans 12:1:ff:
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
V2:"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may proved what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Since we are the temple of God the Holy Spirit, our bodies do not belong to us, and we need to honor God in our bodies, by how we treat it. Peace
