I don't understand the whole "angels vs demons" thing?
Exactly why does there have to be a war after Armageddon? Are the angels and demons hoping to kill one another? If so, God could instantly vaporize all demons seeing as how he is supposedly all-powerful.

Revelation 12:9 - The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
Remember a third of the angels followed the devil.
Revelation 12:4 - Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born.
Jude 1:6 - And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

So apparently as long as they don't move beyond the authority given to them they are good to go... looks like some do tho'.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Do you know who came up with Armageddon? Someone who heard voices.
Armageddon (from Ancient Greek: Ἁρμαγεδών Harmagedōn,[1][2] Late Latin: Armagedōn[3]) will be, according to the Book of Revelation, the site of gathering of armies for a battle during the end times, variously interpreted as either a literal or symbolic location. The term is also used in a generic sense to refer to any end of the world scenario.
The Book of Revelation, often known simply as Revelation or the Apocalypse,[1] is the final book of the New Testament .
The author of the work identifies himself in the text as "John" and says that he was on Patmos, an island in the Aegean, when he was instructed by a heavenly figure to write down the contents of a vision. This John is traditionally supposed to be John the Apostle, although some historical-critical scholars reject this view.[2] Recent scholarship has suggested other possibilities including a putative figure given the name John of Patmos. Most modern scholars believe it was written around AD 95, with some believing it dates from around AD 60.
The author of Revelation identifies himself several times as "John."[5] The author also states that he was on Patmos when he received his first vision:[6]
I John... was in the isle that is called Patmos for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. ...[A]nd I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet saying: What thou seest, write in a book...[7]
As a result, the author of Revelation is sometimes referred to as John of Patmos.

What Calatheist said.
The Bible "story" needed a dramatic ending and what is more dramatic than angels and demons fighting to the death as zombies come alive in the background?

The angels will have laser guns and the demons will have light sabres. Everyone knows this.

When writing fiction it's easy to make continuity errors, holes in logic etc. But when you're trying to pass it off as fact, it becomes laughable.
