Usually doctors do an std test before putting a girl on birth control. If the girl that raped her had an std then she could have contracted an std from them. If she has an std she should be treated before she goes on birth control, if she has an std you should abstain from having sex until she is in the clear and on birth control.

Worth checking with the doctor exactly what (if any) checks were done. Probably none.
