Cons, do you believe there would be less gun violence if only more Americans owned guns?

Do I think guns are the answer- no!

The real answer lies in why I would own a gun-

Civic responsibility! The speech by JFK said expresses that sentiment very well "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country"!

Part of what I can do for my country is be willing to protect my neighbor in an emergency! That does not need a firearm to do, but it might require a fire arm to do!

Take what was the small city of Pilger Neb., because the citizens of that community have a strong sense of civic responsibility there was no looting and will be no looting. That community did not wait for the National guard or any other government agency to come checking for survivors- they all pulled together. If looters had shown up- they would have been dead quicker then a owl can hoot!

For some of us owning a gun is just part of being a responsible citizen in this country, we are willing to die for our neighbor or kill to save a life. There just are not enough police officers, solders, national guard personnel out there to do the job and we are willing to do for ourselves what is unreasonable to expect the government to do.

But here is the thing- if civic responsibility is taught and that responsibility is accepted- then there is no actual need for a gun and it becomes a trophy piece for the mantle or left in a closet out of sight!

If we want to do away with gun violence- it has to start with providing something better and that something better is the concept of "We" as in "We the people"!

As long as our political leaders are using the "Those guy's" approach it fractures our society, preaches hate and the result will always be violent!

If that poor 3 year old girl had just had a glock those 3 pit bulls would have never done any damage. We need to arm everyone, everywhere with the biggest armament they can handle. The NRA says I have a right under the 2nd amendment to bag my limit of people and God Bless Them!

"If" doesn't belong in the question.

    It's well proved.

Over space: Correlate States' gun-ownership percentages with their gun-crime rates. It's a STRONG and INVERSE relationship.

Over time: As we INCREASED gun-ownership by about 50%, gun violence has FALLEN by about 60%

That's always been the pattern, literally everywhere in the World.

Yes. I know MSNBC and CNN didn't show this too you but look.

A 72 year old Grandmother shoots and protects her home from a burglar. Most likely a Liberal because he hid in the woods afterwards! LOL!

If more law abiding citizens owned guns yes. The bad guys would be less willing to risk their lives if they thought more people were armed and could shoot them.

As an example, years ago Florida passed Shall Issue concealed carry laws. The ATM robberies they were plagued with dropped drastically and the bad guys even switched to robbing obvious foreigners because they knew they wouldn't be armed.

Another example. A city in Mass. passed a law requiring every household to own a firearm. Robberies and burglaries dropped to near nothing.

    please try to keep up....

...the point we've been trying to make is that focusing on "guns" is simply distracting from the issue of VIOLENCE...

    ..and the "distraction" is purposeful...

.... or did you not notice the same "progressives" who so love to take credit for "improving" our culture and educational system over the past 50 years don't want you to examine the possible CULTURAL and EDUCATIONAL contributions to the rise in youth violence over that same period?

    ...hmmmmmmm

I grew up in a houseful of guns and I have yet to pick one up in anger or malice. That's myself... and 90 million other gun owners, many of whom are proud liberal Democrats. Things that make you go Hmmm...
