My boyfriend's dog doesn't like me?
I have been dating my guy for a year. I am a huge dog lover and never had any issues with a dog not liking me. The last 6 months she growls at me when I pet her. Last night she jumps in my lap for a pet this time growled and bark. That was the first time she barked at me. This is a huge dog and I will say I am scared of her after she started all this growling at me business after jumping in my lap for a pet.. I thought it might be a problem when he was around so I went over when he wasn't there. At first she was fine so I sat down started to pet her and she growled again. I don't get it. She is excited to see me. My boyfriend said she has never done this before and he thinks he can since his feeling towards me and is jealous. I do see that because if we sit by each other she tries to get between us. Which my BF stops so she doesn't think she's the alpha dog. I am at a lost on how to make her love me too. Any suggestions?

she is the Alpha female and she is letting you know this. she can also sense your fear and that puts her on guard also. be patient, and try cooked fresh beef liver ( nuke it so no blood is left in it in bite size nuggets ) call her to you and give her a small piece and say good girl. when she growls at you say No! and when she stops give her a nugget of liver. make a came with her with a toy and play with her and when she is nice and having fun give her a nugget of liver- praise her and give her another. do this for 20 minutes every day. try taking her for a walk on the leash around the block each day just you and her. make it fun. when she is not expecting it give her a nice nugget of liver pet her and sau good girl. teach her to trust and like you.

I think she IS jealous. Don't let her become more important in the "pack" than you are. Maybe if he would let you feed her it would help establish your 'dominance"? Try not to make her feel left out--take her for walks..give treats... play games whatever to establish your role in the group!!
