The groups are chosen out of a hat after a pool of the 32 best national teams have earned the right after at least three years of competition leading up to the World Cup tournament. The host nation is automatically in.

They pick it like lotto. One person picks a ball with name of countries inside it and another picks a ball with their group and seed.

It is grouped by the country's geographic location.
