Something badly wrong with my dog lately? -?

Okay so I have 2 Shih Tzu's one is 4 and one is 5, and throughout all their lifes they have never had any behavioral issues. However lately, in the space of literally a day, The slightly older dog has totally changed, but only at night, during the day she's pretty much normal but as soon as it hit nights, she starts panting, all night, and then scratching the back door that leads to the garden, all night, for hours and hours on end, I've tried positive and negative reinforcement Ive tried ignoring it, nothing works and it is generally driving me crazy, At night she doesn't listen to anything I say, For example tonight she was doing it and I absolutely screamed at her, as loud as I could, the younger shih tzu ran to his bed (I shouted bed) and the older one just tried to get past me to get back to the door so It could keep scratching, Even now she is still panting but it's only at night,

Please, can anyone help me, I'm really worried,

thanks !

My dog did something similar to this for a while it turned out to be a critter in a wood pile I would recommend taking the dog outside on a lead and just follow when it takes you and see what it wants then if it doesn't "want something" then just walk it around the yard for a while it could just be bathroom problems. Monitor bathroom and eating if that's weird I would recommend the vet.

That is weird. If you were to get the help of a dog behaviourist, they would need to study your dogs, home life, your own interractions with them, etc. They would not be able to answer this over the phone and we can not answer it here.

It sounds like some neurotic behaviour rather than a medical one, unless it is caused by parasites which are often active at night. It could also be environmental - something out there that your dog is interacting with or would like to, either imagined or real.

Any sudden change in behavior OFTEN has a medical cause. That dog needs to go to the vet for a check-up. Be sure to tell the vet how her behavior has changed.

Instead of screaming at your dog, why wouldn't you take it to the vet for a health check? What on earth is screaming supposed to accomplish?
