Question about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as relates to X-Men Days of Future Past movie?
I just watched the movie a few days ago and I somewhat confused. Before I begin let me warn you there is a spoiler to this movie as well as to Captain America Winter Soldier. A few months ago I watched the Cap. A movie and in the mid-credit scene I saw Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch being held prisoner by Hydra. At the time I thought this was a pre-curser to the X-Men movie (after all there is an X-Men mid-credit preview in Amazing Spider-Man 2) and things would be explained then. Unfortunately that was not the case. Here are my questions:
1. How did Quicksilver escape the prison?
2. Why was Scarlet Witch not in the X-Men movie?
3. What did that mid-credit Cap. A scene mean?

The Avengers movies and the Xmen movies take place in two separate universes because different studios hold the rights to make them (the film rights for the Avengers are owned by Marvel Studios while those for the X-men are owned by 20th Century Fox). Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are something of a special case because they're members of both franchises. While the pair originally appeared as villains in Uncanny Xmen they quickly became heroes and members of the Avengers. The Scarlet Witch in particular was a very important member of the Avengers and is still primarily associated with that team. So both franchises can use their own versions of the characters but in the Avengers they can't reference them being mutants and in the Xmen movies they can't reference them being Avengers.

It's not a precursor to X-Men, it's a precursor to the next Avengers movie. Both the X-Men and Avengers studios have the rights to use Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch and they are both using Quicksilver.
The Quicksilver in X-Men is not the same character you saw in Captain America. That Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be seen again in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

X-men characters are actually no Marvel studios owned but Fox owned but Marvel also have the rights to Quicksilver and Scarlett witch only. This is why both properties have the characters but X-men does not link with the Avengers like Captain America and Iron Man do they are two different universes.
