Math Question?

This question in my summer online course is bothering me. Please help.

After a busy day of orders, a florist has 6 roses, 7 lilies, 3 carnations, 35 chrysanthemums, 27 sunflowers, 18 violets, and 9 tulips left in her inventory.

Part A: Write a ratio that compares the number of roses to the number of violets.

Part B: Describe what three other comparisons have the same ratio.

Part C: Provide reasoning why more than one comparison can be made with the same ratio.

I have to write a response for each Part.

Thank You:)

Ratio is like dividing two numbers. Usually you get a fraction, and you change the way you write that fraction, you can get the ratio.

For example, if 2 and 3 are your numbers; then through division you get the fraction 2/3. To get the ratio, write it as 2:3.

In most cases, you'll have to simplify the fraction first, before writing as ratio.

In Part A, your numbers are 6 (roses) and 18 (violets). So through division, you get 6/18.

You can see that both 6 and 18 have 6 as a common factor. So you can simplify this fraction by dividing both sides by 6.

    6/6=1 and 18/6=3. So 6/18=1/3.

    The ratio is then 1:3

For Part B, they're asking you to find two other numbers whose ratio (after simplifying the fraction) is this ratio; i.e. 1:3.

You could just calculate all possible ratios, and then see which are 1:3. Or, if you can see the pattern, you could guess which will give 1:3.

    Try looking at carnations&roses, lilies&chrysanthemums, tulips&sunflowers

For Part C, you have to understand how to get the ratio. The important point here is that you're simplifying the fraction before making the ratio. So if different fractions simplify to the same ratio, you can have more than one comparison using the same ratio.

    eg: 1:2 is the ratio from 1/2, 2/4, 3/5, 7/14, 54/108

Part A: Write a ratio that compares the number of roses to the number of violets.

    6 roses / 18 violets = 1/3

    Part B:

    9 tulips / 27 sunflowers,

    3 carnations / 9 tulips

there are no other ratios equivalent to 1/3...Part B is wrong about three other comparisons or you have omitted information from the question !
