When would be the best climate in Chicago for touring?

I'm taking my 84 year old father, so I really need a good climate to visit the city and not exposing him to extreme climate or danger.

    The best times of the year are either during the spring or fall. Winters can be very cold and snowy, while summers are often very hot.

    I'd say September after the kids are back in school or early October.
