DANCE IS A SPORT!!!?

One of my friends is constantly saying that dance is not a sport. As a dancer myself, I obviously know that it is, but I need some good arguments for it. Anyone have any really convincing points? Thanks!

Dance is a sport and not a sport at the same time.

For it to be a sport, there has to be a winner, which is true in a competition setting. However, if you dance professionally, at a recital, etc., you dance for other people's entertainment, so it's an Art.

It takes tons of strength, strength of an athlete, to dance, but being an Art form is better than just a sport.

You cannot win this one because your friend is technically correct. It is an art not a sport. Perhaps competition dance is a sport as it is a competition with winers and losers.

That being said, it takes and athlete to dance this art and make it look effortless. In that way you are correct.

No, dancing is not a sport.

It can be a contest, but its all in eye of the beholder.

There is no tangible winners and losers.

Want to end up extremely disappointed ?

Spend all your childhood in Band camp, or in a dancing school.. and enter yourself into a contest.. you'll be disappointed.

Other things just like it, is philosophy in college, you want to graduate ? stay off the Philosophy, stay in Biology, you'll be better off.

    lol
