How important are summer intensives when actually auditioning for ballet companies?
Do ballet companies actually care what summer intensives you've gone to? Does it impact their decisions? Or do they judge based only on your dancing ability and not what schools and intensives you've trained at? I know of course there are exceptions to the rule, but I'm just speaking generally. Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerDancing6 years agoHow much does it cost to build a balcony?
I want a small balcony from my second story window. It would probably only be 5x6 or so, just enough to put one chair and some potted plants. I don't need it to be fancy either, just your cheapest basic materials. I have a friend who is a construction worker and would probably be able to do most of the installation himself, so labor doesn't really play a factor in the cost. With those conditions, what would be the price range? Thanks!

Solid wood, 57" by 30", going about 2000 miles, where could I find the cheapest option, and how much would it cost?
1 AnswerOther - Destinations7 years agoHow to transfer iphoto library from iphone to mac?
My computer crashed and I lost all of my pictures from iphoto. Luckly, I had them saved on my iphone (3gs if that makes a difference) but now I can't get them off again. And its not just transferring things from "camera roll" because that's easy. This album is titled "photo library" and there is no option to transfer it on to the computer or even into "camera roll" and then to the computer. The only option I can find is emailing them all to myself individually? Is there and easier way that that? I have over 2000 photos...
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks7 years agoWould online high school give me more time for dance training?
I am an incoming junior and I want to be a professional ballet dancer. I'm training a lot at a pre-professional dance school in my area but I know its not enough. The training itself is excellent, but I only dance about 8 hours a week, while it should be at least 15. I just don't have enough time in the week to do this much because of school during the day, and then 4-5 hours of homework every night! Being home-schooled is not an option because my parents need to work. I would like to go to some sort of arts school for ballet that has an academic arrangement included, but there are none in my area and my parents can't pay for boarding, plus tuition for most of those schools are out of reach anyway. What about online school? Would I still be able to get a good education? That is really important to my parents but I would really just like more time for dance class and even just extra time to practice at home! If anyone has personal experience with this, that would be great, or any help you can give!!! Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersDancing7 years agoCan I be a professional ballet dancer with less than perfect turnout?
I have the long legs, good feet, hyperextension, flexibility, long neck, and slimness to be a ballet dancer, but only about 140 degrees of turnout rather than the perfect 180. Disregarding how good I actually am at dancing for this question, would this be enough for me to be a professional ballet dancer? And I'm not talking about being in the Bolshoi, or NYCB, or the Royal, or any other top company. I'm not talking about being a principal at all either. Just any small ballet company that would pay me enough to live on and I could do corps roles in the back for all I care! If anyone has personal experience with this problem, or just any help at all, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!!

One of my friends is constantly saying that dance is not a sport. As a dancer myself, I obviously know that it is, but I need some good arguments for it. Anyone have any really convincing points? Thanks!

3 AnswersDancing7 years agoInterlochen Arts Academy or Walnut Hill (dance)?
I want to go a performing arts boarding school for ballet but I have no idea which one. Interlochen is closer to where I live so I would be able to visit my family much easier, I know someone who has gone there so I could easily talk to them about it and everything so I would actually know what I was doing, and there is an audition right by where I live. Walnut Hill is more centered on ballet and I heard that their academics are better, but it is far from my house so getting home during breaks and things would be much harder, and the closest audition would be at least 2 hours away. Both of these schools sound amazing!!! I have no idea what the best option is. Help!
1 AnswerDancing7 years agoBallet-only boarding schools in US?
If it exists, I would like a ballet boarding school, with academics included with the school, that's close to Ohio/Michigan, and doesn't cost a ton. I know that there's probably nothing exactly like what I'm looking for but I just want as close as I can get. The one thing I really want is academics included with the school because I feel like having academic classes separate would be complicated and it would make it harder to get good grades, which is really important to my parents. They wouldn't let me go to a school if the academics weren't good. I would prefer that it is ballet only, but a school with all arts programs is good too, as long as the ballet program is still strong. Location isn't the most important thing either. I don't want to be way out in California, but just as close as possible is fine. I'm also going to be a junior in high school next year, not a freshman, so I don't know if that makes things more complicated. If anyone knows of any schools like what I'm talking about, your help is greatly appreciated!!!
1 AnswerDancing7 years agoHow to improve back muscles?
I need help strengthening my back so I can have a higher arabesque and such. I have an abnormally flexible back; I can do a flat scorpion (aka needle) and when I do a backbend I can hold my ankles, but my arabesque and back attitude are not very good. Does anyone know any good exercises for your back muscles? Thanks in advance!
5 AnswersDancing7 years agoHow to improve arch muscles?
I need help on getting better arches. I actually have very good feet; when someone stretches my feet, my toes touch the floor, but they are nowhere close when I just point my toes on my own. Does anyone know any good feet exercises to get better arches? Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersDancing7 years agoBallet summer intensive video audition help?
For one of the summer intensives I'm auditioning for this year, I have to submit a video audition. I've never done one before and I have no idea what to do. There is a list of certain steps and such but I don't know what to do with it. Do you put an entire exercise at the barre in the video or only part? Do they want to see both sides? When you edit the video all together, do you keep the class music in the background or edit some other music overtop? Is there anything else you should include in the video? If someone could give me any tips on how to do this, it would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what I'm doing!!! Help!
1 AnswerDancing7 years agoSummer intensive audition? Help!!!?
I've never done a summer intensive before and I have an audition for one coming up in a couple weeks. I'm 16 and I've been dancing for a really long time including 3 1/2 years of pointe, I just have never been able to do summer intensives because of money and timing issues. I'm auditioning for the ABT summer intensive and I also have to film an audition video for the English National Ballet School. Can anyone who has auditioned for ABT tell me exactly what it is like? If not, what is a normal summer intensive audition like? And for ENB, or any summer intensive video audition in general, besides the required steps they tell you to put in the video, is there anything else I need? Do you just keep the class music in the background during the exercises or do you put some other music over the top of everything when you edit it all together? I have no idea what I'm doing. Someone please help!!!
1 AnswerDancing7 years agoWhere to get ballet costumes?
I'm doing a Don Quixote variation for my school's talent show but I don't know where I can find a costume for it. I want a mostly white tutu with black and gold decorations if possible but any Kitri costume would be fine. I was also wondering if its possible to buy a Clara nightgown anywhere? I am obsessed with the Nutcracker and I would just love to own one. Thanks in advance for any help anyone has!
1 AnswerDancing7 years ago"Do you hear what I hear" song with lamb singing?
I heard this song somewhere one time and I'm trying to find it. It was the song "do you hear what I hear" except in this version, the lamb starting "baa-ing" and singing and it was so funny and I want to find it again! Does anyone know this version of the song and where to find it?
1 AnswerSinging7 years agoHow to get more ankle strength?
I'm a ballet dancer. I have really good arches (when I have someone stretch my feet, my toes touch the floor) but when I point my toe myself, sometimes it looks bad because my foot is working, but it doesn't bend enough at my ankle because I don't have the strength there. At least that's what I think the problem is. Is that what's probably wrong or is it something else? Are there any exercises to get stronger ankles? And if its not about ankle strength, what is it? I would appreciate any help anyone has. Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersDancing8 years agoAre my parents being overprotective or do all parents do this?
I'm a 15 year old girl and I'm going out on a date tonight. We are going to this thing at the zoo that ends at 9 and then I'm possibly going over to his house to watch a movie or something. We've been friends for a little bit before anything romantic happened so its not like this is my first time alone with him or anything. He's a year older than me but he's a really good guy (like the complete opposite of someone who would try to do anything bad like that) and my parents met him so they know that! But they are freaking out about the whole date thing and they want me to call when I get to his house and have his parents talk to mine to make sure that they're home and everything. I feel like that would just be really awkward and embarrassing. Do all parent do this or is it just mine? And is there anything I can do about it? I did actually talk to them before and it helped a little because they wanted me to text when I got to the zoo and when we were leaving and when I got to his house and everything but I convinced them that I shouldn't have to do that. I just feel like they're trying to control everything but I just want to have a good time! What do I do?!? Help!!!
4 AnswersAdolescent8 years agoHow to get over an embarrassing moment?
The details are unimportant but it involves the guy I like, who actually likes me back. And that luckily hasn't changed since the embarrassing thing. But now everything is just awkward. I asked if he could just pretend nothing happened and forget about it and he said yes and he hasn't mentioned it in any way, but he's probably thought about it and I know I definitely have. Is there any way to help just forget about it? Help! Awkwardness.
3 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoI'm pretty sure my crush like me… what happens next?!?!?
Ok, so last night I went to my school's football game with my friends and my crush was there and he came over to talk to me and my friends and he stood next to me and long story short, we spent most of the last 2 quarters really close (like really really really close) with our arms around each other and then at the end we walked out of the stadium holding hands and he hugged me goodbye (a very long, drawn-out hug goodbye :D) and that was it. But now what? I don't have his phone number but I am Facebook friends with him so should I message him asking for it? Or should I wait until Monday to do anything? And what should I do on Monday? I don't have any classes with him since he's a grade above me but I do see him in the hallway occasionally. The thing is, he's definitely not a flirt who does that with every girl, and I honestly haven't ever talked to him that much so I'm not sure why he would pick me. But it definitely means something right? What does it mean? What do I do? Help!
