does your therapist really listen to you?

Psychiatrists dont want their patients to get better

they give patients no advice on how to get better, the patient thinks that they cant get better and adapts to the lifestyle of being a mental health patient, with pension and drugs

the psychiatrist builds up a stable of patients, they contribute to his status, prestige and wealth

psuchs who do therapy dont really liaten to their patients, barkeepers dont listen hard to their patrons and womens hairderssers dont much to their clients However, having someone to talk to is very addictive, and the psych makes easy money

plenty of useful advice is available its in cheap self help books,a alreg number of them are on interent bookstore lists

My therapist definitely listened to me. My experience with psychiatrists is that they don't really offer counselling - it's more a quick check in and monitoring medication. A qualified counsellor doesn't dole out advice - they work with their clients to heal from past experiences and find healthier ways of coping.

Being a counsellor is far from "easy money" - it can be very challenging day after day to hear about people's traumatic pasts and hurts. Counsellors certainly want their clients to get better. They don't need to prevent their clients from healing in order to keep a steady income because there are so many people in the world who are experiencing struggles - many counsellors I know have a wait list.

Uhm, not so sure about this one. I'm sure there are many bad therapists out there, but I feel "listened to" by mine. Why? I've caught her almost crying when I talk about how I feel about myself. Sometimes, I feel like she's in my head with the things she says. I'll be talking about some area of my life and she'll be like "You must be the type of person that doesn't like _____" or whatever, or she'll talk about the cycle I'm trapped in, and it's all so very true.

So no I don't agree with your statement.
