My USB ports aren't working, mouse and keyboard not working, but monitor and computer is on. What do I do?

All my USB ports (i think) stopped working suddenly. My keyboard and mouse are connected to the computer via USB, and they arent working, even the lights on the keyboard dont turn on. And since I can use the mouse/keyboard, I cant even reinstall my computer, what do I do? Is it a problem with the ports? Why did it stop working so suddenly? Please Help, 10 pts!

Update:

I checked all the ports, even the front side, and still not working, plus i tried using the mouse on other computer, and it worked, and the keyboard is brand new, so its not the mouse/keyboard problem. And I can update anything since I cant use mouse or keyboard =(

Update 2:

@Gary, nothing you said helps because first off, its a desktop, not a laptop. Second, if the keyboard duznt work, how the hell am I supposed to press F8??

i first thought it may be the driver's problem but then u say the lights on keyboard and mouse didn't turn on.. that means theres no electricity there which i may say its the ports problem.. have u try with other devices? it quite strange to happen if two devices mouse and keyboard are broken at the same time but its not possible.. try to plugin the keyboard/mouse on other computer or plugin other working devices on this computer.. if it fails then i guess its the port faulty.. how bout the other ports? maybe the front-side ports still working? if it is.. try to check the driver for each USB ports and update if necessary.. if still can't solve.. then its time to buy new ports :3

Try pulling battery out and leave out for a little while than put back and see if fixes anything [ does fix little problems ] Do the Arrows work on your Keyboard at all or is everything dead.

Ps.. See if can boot into Safe Mode by clicking F8 on a Resart or Reboot and try 2 options first try Last Know Good Configuration [have to use arrows] and reboot and see if works. If still same go back to Safe Mode and click Boot with Debug and reboot [ that could make keyboard work]
