Sorry to hear that. Is he neutered? If not he might have wandered a bit further than usual in search of a female.
I agree with Flower that it's possible your cat may have accidentally got locked in someone's shed or garage. (This is often the cause for a temporarily missing cat.) You need to start asking neighbours if they've seen your cat and if they'd keep an eye out for him. Call local vets and cat rescues to see if anyone has taken him there.
This article has lots of good advice on ways to search for a missing cat.

I hope you find him safe and well very soon.

If he's not neutered, he's outside trying to find females to mate - he may or may not return home. Also an unsupervised cat outside is subject to many dangers - from being hit and hurt/killed on the roads, to getting in fights with other animals to being poisoned or caught and taken to a shelter.

If your cat is an outdoor cat, you have to expect this sort of thing to happen. The average life-span of an outdoor cat is only 2 years due to cars, predators, disease etc. I'm not in any way trying to be mean, I'm just trying to prepare you for the fact your cat may not return home some day. There are a lot of cats who manage to live into their old age, but it's not as common as you'd think. My aunt has gone through several cats a year for as long as I can remember and she doesn't even bother to name them anymore.

I'm so sorry to hear that, sorry but Kats reply is not good for you to find your cat. You MUST be proactive about finding your cat. My cat has gone missing before and I have found him. I have found lost cats and been able to return them to your owners. Don't assume the worst - he could be locked in someones garage/shed, taken in as someone thought he was unwanted or could be injured somewhere and unable to get home.
First go out in the streets, garden areas and call him loudly. walk around a good radius of where you live. You must be quick as some cats get taken in by shelters who then kill them if their owners do not come to get them. You MUST call all of the shelters immediately in your area as they may have found him and will not do much to find the owners.
The shelters that kill cats and dogs are a real problem as they only keep them for a short time before killing them. Owners haveno idea they are there and just need to be collected.
To Kat, it is possible that your poor Aunts cats were picked up by shelters and killed because she didn't go to find them and get them from there - how awful. Several cats a year and she didn't even try to get them?
My cat is an indoor cat, 11 years old and very healthy.
Really hope you find your cat - best of luck and wishes!
