Manager questioned my teenage daughter?

Last week and then again today (twice now) the manager of my apartment complex questioned my daughter concerning things were solely the business of the person who signed the lease which is me.

My daughter is a minor.

It is my understanding that it is illegal for any landlord to talk or question of my leasing agreements or concerns with anyone else.

I also understand that it is illegal to ever question a minor.

Can anyone give me some insight as to whether my rights have been violated by the landlord/manager?

Thanks in advance!

"Can anyone give me some insight as to whether my rights have been violated by the landlord/manager?"

Only if he gave confidential financial info about you or your lease to her & it would be terribly hard to prove being she is both your child & a minor..

"I also understand that it is illegal to ever question a minor"

I don't know who told you this but you know this is simply NOT true. I know you are upset; but when you calm down & you're thinking is clearer & you give this some thought, you'll know this is just NOT true.

Talk to your daughter & instruct her to tell the manager to talk to you f he has any questions. When you speak to the manager, tell him not to ask your daughter these type of questions & if he has any questions in the future, he should ask you. If he continues to ask questions, after you asked him not to; tell him to stop 'harassing' your daughter. The word 'harassing' may be enough to stop it being it has legal connotations & no, I don't think you have a case for harassment.

One more thought, do you really want to get on the bad side of your apt manager? Think about it. Remember this quote "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" ~ tis true.

    Good Luck

I found a link regarding confidentiality and your lease. If he breaks any of these rules, you have a case.

Talking to minors is perfectly legal. Asking questions perfectly legal. Anyone can talk to minors. It would be a weird world if such a law existed.

Your lease is also not private, it can be discussed with any one at all. There are some things the landlord can not disclose though. Your social security number and your income. Those 2 things are off limits, but the rest of it can be discussed with anyone at all, no matter their age.

    1. Your lease is not confidential.

    2. No, it is not illegal to ask a question of a minor. It's done everyday in schools.

No it isn't illegal. Whenever people don't like something they rush out and say illegal illegal. It is bad business. Tell your daughter to tell them next time to refer to you.
