ALT and ASP are enzymes found in liver cells. If ALT is elevated, it can indicate liver, biliary, or pancreatic disease. Elevated AST is less specific than other liver enzymes, but can indicate liver disease (i.e., jaundice, liver enlargement, fatigue, weight loss, ascites, etc).

Consistently high levels of ALT can be a sign of injury of the primary liver cells (hepatocytes).

Elevated ALT can be heridatry and some people have high ALT counts. Have you been tested for Hepatitis C?
