fighters are getting older will we see another benitez or tyson?

i was thinking that all the top p4p fighters are in the 30's with only really canello under 25 , many fighters now are still novices @30 instead of retiring at that age . so will we ever see teenage world champions again , i think ray leonard was 23 when he fought hearns that would never happen now or tyson becoming the heavy weight champ 18 months after turning pro...

This is what I call the 'Golden Goose' syndrome...

If a good boxer comes along, he will be protected by his management team.... The more exposure he gets, the bigger the fan base, the bigger the earning potential..

Look at Deontay Wilder, his team know they have the potential to make some serious money with their man..... As long as he doesn't get beat. His record of 31-0, and 31 KO's sounds flattering, until you look at the quality of opposition - The majority of opponents are guys you'd see down the shopping mall on a Saturday afternoon..

Sugar Ray Leonard was gifted, he was a skillfull boxer, and his team knew that. They taken risks matching him with the best. Benitez was up for anything, as was Duran, these were the true warriors of their era.

A lot of Tyson's early opponents were from the Deontay Wilder ilk, carefully picked to guarantee a knockout.. This was clever marketing by his handlers.

Instead of rising to the challenge, and fighting the very best of their weight division, most of the big names avoid each other like the plague... The promoters are content to milk the punters of their money, with the very minimum of risk to their man... As long as their man comes through his latest bout unscathed, he can be milked yet again further down the line..

Boxing is a money business... That's the bottom line. As the rewards get bigger, the quality of opposition gets lower.... Nobody wants to kill the Golden Goose.

**The Canelo vs Lara fight is a throwback... This fight has risks to both men - Somebody's goose is going to stop laying the golden eggs this weekend **

I think it comes down to 2 things-

1- Hard times and greater numbers-

young men have it MUCH easier these days and it's showing.the desire in numbers just ain't there anymore.hard times and a huge flow of youth was the recipe to produce the awesome athleticism and skills thats needed for a special young star to be born

2.better schooling and nutrition-i think fighters are skooled much better today then they were in the past and the advances in nutrition gives them a big edge.

because todays bunch lacks the backdrop of hunger and numbers that it takes to produce huge talent, it takes longer to bring them along to a point were they can challenge there already polished contemporary's

of course it still happens but just not as much.some fighters still come through young but they don't pull it off till atleast 22.maybe that's also in part to do with today's drawn out boxing politics(longer periods between fights and whatnot)
