Actually, my husband has 6 kidney stones right now. He's only passed 2 so far. The pain was so severe he was hyperventilating and it sent him to the ER twice, once by ambulance. If the kidney stones are small the doctors usually tell you that you need to pass them naturally. If they are too big to pass you may need surgery. This is why seeing a doctor is very important that way he/she can tell you what to do. From what I've read yes a kidney stone can cause bloating and abdominal pain. I don't work in the medical field but I read about it when I was looking up symptoms for my husband. My husband was experiencing severe back pain, stomach pain, he was bloated, nausea, he felt sweaty and he couldn't use the restroom. Once the pain kicked in it took him a whole day to pass one. He still has 6 left to go! Drink water and stay away from soda and fatty foods. My husbands doctor also said tea aggravates kidney stones. Go see your doctor that way you can know what to do.

It really depends on how big the kidney stone is, some of them are too large to pass. My husband had one and it took about 2 days from start to finish. From the moment he started feeling pain to the moment it was actually passed that is. He had to go to the emergency room. I'm really not sure about the bloating but if you have a kidney stone don't be afraid to go to the ER, they can do some damage.
My husband was throwing up the pain was so severe, they admitted him to the ER immediately too so it's no laughing matter.

Kidney stones do not cause abdominal bloating. They cause pain in the kidney region. If you had a kidney stone, you would know it - they really hurt.
There's a bunch of different things that can cause bloating, ranging in severity from swallowing air or eating certain foods that don't digest fully, to cancer or liver problems. Its a good idea to see a doc.

If you have a kidney stone, you know that it can be extremely painful. Are you taking pain medications? These can slow down the natural digestive process in the stomach and intestines, which can cause severe bloating. Sometimes a laxative, suppository, or enema will help remove the gas and stools, which will relieve the bloating. Also, avoid foods which cause increased gas production--you can look them up online, but beans, many vegetables, and dairy products may contribute. Pasta and white bread are water-soluble sources of fiber--regular fiber sources may help bowels but also increase gas, so try water-soluble. Be aware, though, water soluble fiber does slow digestion as well as providing bulk. Avoid all caffeine and carbonated beverages, and drink lots of fluids.
