When I click a link, Chrome sometime randomly tries to download a file. Virus? Suggestions?

It doesn't matter what page I'm on. One time it will do it, and then when I go back and try again it won't. Even clicking "back" can do it. I changed the settings so that it prompts for a save location, so now I'm constantly getting "save as" dialogs. AVG scans aren't picking anything up. I don't have any Chrome extensions enabled. Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts?

Update:

If it helps figure things out, even though Chrome is my default browser I also get IE windows that open up saying "bad gateway". That doesn't always happen though.

Please download, install and run these programs in order. Remove everything the programs find.

Download Junkware removal tool

Have you tried to uninstall chrome, and re-install it yet?
