How do you produce methanol from either grass cuttings or other plant cuttings?

I make bio-diesel from vegetable oil and use methanol in the process.I currently buy the methanol ,but I can get a lot of grass cuttings from my friend who is a gardner.I've heard there is a way to ferment the cellulose in grass into wood alchohol(methanol),but I'm not sure of the technique or how productive it is.Does anbody know the process/technique? Thanks in advance.

It is not something you could do on a home system. Whilst you can produce ethanol by fermentation of vegetable matter such as cellulose, the methanol content is at best about 5 ppm (0.0005%).

The methods used to manufacture methanol from biomass rely on the conversion of biomass into synthesis gas (syngas) which is a mixture of carbon dioxide and hydrogen, this is then converted into the final product. This is something that requires huge amounts of biomass and an industrial plant to make it work, and even if you had the plant, you would need tonnes of grass clippings to make anything more than a few drops of methanol.
