If you want to become a psychologist, obviously you'd major in psychology; but regardless of your major, a certain amount of general education courses need to be completed. These courses include math, science, history, English, and so forth (some of the current courses you're taking are included in the general education curriculum).

In order to be a psychologist, you will need a PhD (12 years in college) and 1-2 years afterwards of post-doctorate training. Being that psychology is the second most popular college major, it is a *very* competitive field.

    Hi tinotenda,

I assume you are in high school? Subjects such as biology, math (preferably statistics), and English are going to help you. I would also try to take a sociology and/or psychology elective if possible. A graduate degree in psychology is needed to be a psychologist. There are several different types of psychologists - educational psychologists, criminal psychologists, clinical psychologists, I/O psychologists, etc. If you desire to be an I/O psychologist, for example, you will want to be well-versed in math, especially statistics, and business. On the other hand, if you desire to be a forensic/criminal psychologist, you will want to be well-versed in the sciences and the criminal justice field. You will take these courses in your undergraduate studies to prepare for graduate school in a more specified field of psychology. Generally speaking, however, you are just fine having taken the courses you listed.

    Hope this helps!

    Ryan
