Atheists: what do you think of Plantinga's presentation of the ontological argument linked below?

Here it is:

http://mind.ucsd.edu/syllabi/02-03/01w/readings/pl...

It's long, so bear with me if you will. If you have nothing on topic to say, do not answer. If you do not read (or at least skim) the article, do not answer. If you are going to just hate, do not answer.

Like all arguement for god the ontologically argument is flawed

I apologise for my chihuahua attention span. But I did give it a look.

OK, so, let us stipulate, for the purposes of discussion, that Anselm is right, and Quetzlcoatl, Greatest of All Gods, does exist.

How does the fact that you and I even temporarily agree on the existence and supremacy of Quetzlcoatl serve as proof that, when Saul of Tarsus fell off his horse, claimed to have heard the voice of someone he had never met, and changed his name to PAUL, the only POSSIBLE explanation for Paul's behavior was that he heard - and recognized as authentic- the voice of Risen Jesus?

If you like philosphical explanations, how about an explanation for that?

It's still based on unsupported assumptions and definitions that were simply made up to work in the argument.

(I will break it down but first)

There is no twisting of the Ontological argument that can make

"Durr, it in my hed so it must be troo"

    sound sane...

"Existence in reality is greater than existence in the understanding alone. "

Already you have a false premise with ill defined terms. What the hell is "greater" supposed to mean in this context? It either exists objectively or it doesn't, if you want to claim any other form of existence you are going to have to demonstrate it rather than just assume it.

"It is possible that God exists"

That hasn't been demonstrated at all. It COULD be a possibility, but so far reality that is testable doesn't permit such. If you are going to make claims you better have a good reason for claiming it, not just simply because you can imagine something up.

  • Most atheists I have had a chance to interact with on R&S are allergic to Platinga and his arguments.

Where ever you see the word 'god' mentioned in the argument..substitute 'magic fairies' and you will see how ridiculous this argument is..

Most atheists in this section have the attention span of a Chihauhua. Too much porn and violent video games fried their brains.
