consider two scenarios?

consider two scenarios in which an ancestral population occupies a large, ecologically homogeneous are, in each scenario, the ancestral population becomes divided into two isolated populations. In the first case, the ancestral population becomes divided into two equal portions by a barrier that prevents movement between them. In the second, a freak storm allows a small number of individual to colonize an island that is distant from the ancestral population. The habitat on the island is slightly different from that used by the ancestral population. Again, you can assume that further movements between the mainland and tha island are not possible. compare and contrast the evolutionary consequences of the two scenarios.

first population will probably be fine, but the one on the island is more likely to have abnormal traits or recessive disorders due to genetic drift (it's called founder effect). the island population is thus more likely to evolve into a species different from that of the ancestral population.

yes but the first population spliced into two so I think they would experience new speciation processes as well
